Steve McCurry has been one of the most iconic voices in contemporary photography for more than 30 years. His work spans conflicts, vanishing cultures, ancient traditions and contemporary culture alike - yet always retains the human element. McCurry has been recognized with some of the most prestigious awards in the industry, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal, National Press Photographers Award, and an unprecedented four first prize awards from the World Press Photo contest.
I certainly hope to find in her that same joy, the same curiosity, the same love, and the same respect for our fellow humans that we've tried to instill in her.
Just for a moment
My daughter is now playing and growing up with her superheroes. Yet, one day she will stop and look back. It will just be for a moment, before she goes back to looking ahead towards the future. In that blink of an eye, I will be judged. I will suddenly discover what kind of a father I have been and whether the path I have shown her was the right one.
Finding humanity
I do not expect — nor even hope — that she will see me through the same eyes as I see her now.
Yet, I certainly hope to find in her that same joy, the same curiosity, the same love, and the same respect for our fellow humans that we've tried to instill in her.
That same humanity that we have come to call “new”, and that I hope will have by then become 'old.'
