A spectacle that
melts the heart

WHITE BLANKETS,
RHÔNE GLACIER, SWITZERLAND

The Rhône Glacier is the beating heart of the Canton of Valais: an expanse of ice and snow, 10 km in legth and 1 km in width. Yet the heart of a community beats even more strongly for its local area, which is defending against global warming.

AN ANCIENT GLACIER WITH AN EYE ON THE FUTURE

DURING THE ICE AGE, IT COVERED ALL OF SWITZERLAND, AND NOW INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS ARE BEING ADOPTED TO STOP IT FROM SHRINKING. THE PEOPLE IS THAT THIS GLACIER WILL BECOME A SYMBOL OF THE FIGHT AGAINST GLOBAL WARMING, FOR US AND FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

A blanket to keep it cool

Glacier melting is a relentless phenomenon. The Rhône glacier alone shrinks by approximately nine metres in leght and depth each year. Yet, people from this area have decided not to sit idly by and watch, but to protect it with white geotextile blankets that reflect the sun's rays.
